Indoor Paintball

While most people prefer to play paintball games outdoors on rugged terrain, indoor paintball fields definitely have there place. Although outdoor fields are definitely more common within the United States, if you are thinking of traveling overseas and still playing some paintball during your trip, you will most likely be playing in Europe indoors. Both indoor and outdoor fields will generally charge an admissions fee if they are professionally run and have referees - IE if they are not outlaw fields. Indoor fields, however, will generally require you to buy your paintballs at their facility which may cost more than you are used to.

While an outdoor paintball field may cost less to run for the facility, you will often find some really cool fields placed in old warehouses in the city. Indoor fields will often have an AstroTurf type of surface for the flooring. You will need to adjust your footwear as appropriate as the normal cleats that you wear for running around in the woods will not necessarily be appropriate or welcome at your local indoor field.

During the summer months in many locales an indoor paintball field is a life saver. Not only are summers brutal in places like Atlanta and Las Vegas, but you will save a tremendous amount of energy by not needing to fight the heat as well as the enemy team. Indoor fields provide an extra layer of comfort in that they are very often air conditioned as well as being sheltered from the sun directly.

While in recent years, a good number of indoor paintball fields have been closed down partly due to the cost of running the facility. However, the successful indoor fields continue to run regular and aggressive specials as well as including unique styles of game play that keeps players coming back time and again. Many indoor fields will use special gimmick types of paintballs such as glow in the dark paint or glow in the dark rubber pellets. These special types of games are especially popular among the younger generations.

In Europe paintball is played more indoors primarily due to space requirements. The population density and land allocations in Europe doesn't support the large outlaw fields that are typical within the United States. Most major European cities such as Oslo and London sport very popular indoor paintball arenas where you can stop in for a game while traveling across Europe.

While it may be more popular to think of playing a sport such as paintball outdoors, indoor arenas do have much to offer. Beware, however, of playing outlaw ball in buildings that are not professionally run. Playing paintball indoors in abandoned warehouses for example is not safe and introduces many additional hazards to the game that your typical gear is not prepared to handle. If you happen to live in a city or in an area that is extremely hot during the summer, moving your game of paintball to an indoor field is an excellent way to keep up the sport when you can't get further away for the weekend.
