There are some really great paintball marker packages available these days. These really should be called starter packages, because they are best meant for newbies. There is certain required gear to play at any paintball field, and the fields make a lot of money from all of the various pieces of equipment that players are required to have that they wind up renting for the day.
Once you have decided that you love paintball and that you are going to play with some regularity, a paintball marker package is the thing to get. The usual paintball marker packages that I've seen include the marker, a squeegee for cleaning, a barrel plug, a basic hopper and a CO2 tank. Along with that you get a mask and some pods. Some packages I've seen even include a harness. They will come with an Allen wrench set, some spare O-rings as well as lubricant for the gun, but most guns I've seen come with this normally.
This is quite a lot of stuff, and the package price you can get it for is really good. If you added up the cost of each item separately, it would be way more than you pay for the package. And you'll need all this stuff anyway.
At a paintball field, you are going to have to rent all of this stuff separately, and they will charge you a nice chunk. The mask, for instance, is a separate charge.
As paintball marker packages are geared towards beginners, they generally involve a beginner level marker. You commonly see the Spyder sold in a package, as well as the Tippmann 98. Personally I would recommend the Tippmann, as they are known for having the most upgrades. As you progress, you will want to upgrade your gun, and a Tippmann 98 is the perfect inexpensive marker to upgrade and customize. You can customize this gun so much that you can make it better than many expensive markers. And it's fun to upgrade your marker. You can't go wrong with a Tippmann 98, and the package price is very cheap.
So to summarize, if you are new to paintball and you're ready to get your own marker, I recommend highly the Tippmann 98 marker package.
