Paintball Marker - A Comparison Between Co2 And Compressed Air Propellants
The popularity of paintball as a combative game has grown steadily over the years. The object of the game is simple; two teams battle one another until one team is eliminated by the other. This is accomplished by the opponents shooting one another with paint pellets. While being skilled and in good physical condition is important to winning, using the proper equipment also plays a key role.
When looking for the right paintball marker, or gun, the type of propellant you choose is very important. It could mean the difference between winning and losing, especially for professional players who often play in very long games. Compressed air propellants are the most popular, while CO2 is also widely used.
CO2 Propellants
The paintball markers with carbon dioxide as a propellant typically come in in 9 oz, 16 oz, or 20 oz packages. The largest package is 24 oz, which can supply a range of 800 to 1100 shots, depending on the efficiency of the paintball marker. The concern with CO2 powered paintball guns are the potential for hazardous malfunctions. The risk is even greater when the temperature is under ten degrees Celsius.
Compressed Air Propellants
Because of their compressed nature, they are less likely to malfunction since they are able to operate in a wider temperature range. Compressed air tanks come in 3000 and 4500 psi packages and a 45 to 88 ci volume range. You can get anywhere from 500 - 1300 shots, and 1000 - 2000 shots respectively. The majority of compressed air tanks are more accurate and consistent due to their steady pressure output. Of course, this also means they are more expensive.
