Strategies for First Person Shooters
When playing a first person shooter (FPS) there are certain strategies that will help you get out of tight situations and through a level. Here are my strategies in no particular order.
- Always reload. The gun you have, be it an automatic SMG or just a simple paintball gun, you should always have it loaded and ready to go. You never know when the next bad guy or other worldly thing will come up on you and you have to unload a full clip into them. This will not only save you time when shooting them, but will make sure that you can get out of a sticky situation if they have a lot of health, or you are running low on it.
- Use grenades. The likelihood of you getting into a tight spot is always very high. In most FPS games, you will have some grenades that you can deploy. These should usually be deployed if you are being overrun by other soldiers, or zombies or bad guys. When deploying grenades, I like to throw them directly at the oncoming enemy waves to decimate their numbers. Doing this will save you bullets and keep you alive to tackle greater problems down the line.
- Take cover. Using the surrounding buildings and rocks and debris as cover can really save your bacon. The cover that you find will help to deflect bullets, hide you from the enemy and can help you to get your bearings and suit up for the next encounter that you are going to have to undertake.
- Know your surroundings. Figuring out where you are on the map and where you have to get to next will make it easier for you to get around in the world you are in. Knowing exactly where the next checkpoint is and the dangers along the way will prepare you much better for the next part of the level. Find out where the best places to take cover are and you will be able to blitz the level in no time.
Using these tips should make it easy for you to get through your next FPS in record time.
